Royal Salute deftly captures the city’s exuberant spirit with the 21 Year Old Miami Polo Edition. The juxtaposition between Royal Salute’s illustrious heritage and Miami’s youthful energy is mirrored in the creation of the limited-edition whisky, a process that blends innovation with tradition.

Breaking new ground, the Miami Polo Edition is the first Royal Salute whisky to undergo finishing in fresh bourbon and rye casks. Handpicked malt and grain whiskies mature for a minimum of 21 years in all-American oak casks, yielding a smooth expression with tones evocative of Miami’s golden beaches and warm sunsets. Bringing this expression to life is Royal Salute master blender Sandy Hyslop.

“Miami is such a dynamic city, so we wanted to craft a blend that would echo this with an exciting new dimension,” he said. “Selecting the finest first-fill bourbon and rye casks to finish the special formulation of whiskies aged for a minimum of 21 years allowed us to impart some incredible flavours and emphasise the sweet and spicy notes of the final blend, perfectly nodding to Miami’s vibrant scene.”

Upon first nosing, the blend extends a cosy welcome, with ripe pears mingling with honey blossom, vanilla and cinnamon spice. A sip brings forth sweet apricot and coconut, chased by notes of zesty lemon curd and spicy gingerbread. The sweet and silky finish lingers, much like memories of days spent in the sprightly city.

A PURVEYOR OF GOOD TASTE

Royal Salute 21 Year Old Miami Polo Edition made its official debut in Palm Beach in April during a two-day affair. The celebration culminated in a high-energy polo match at Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, where Borwick took to the field for the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in support of Sentebale.

Since 2006, Royal Salute has supported Sentebale, a charity co-founded by Prince Seeiso of Lesotho and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Sentebale’s mission focuses on tackling health, wealth inequality and climate resilience issues in Lesotho and Botswana. The event garnered enthusiastic participation from 300 guests, with the sophisticated blend of Royal Salute serving as the perfect complement to the spirited atmosphere.
