When Mercedes-Benz set out to design the EQS, it sought to answer one question above all else: What would the future of automotive luxury look like if you could buy it today?

As the first all-electric luxury saloon from Mercedes-EQ, the new EQS is a veritable showcase of next-generation luxury that is available today.

It’s the first model based on the modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric cars, with an all-new EV platform that is created from the ground up. This platform is instantly discernible from its stablemates with internal-combustion engines, thanks to features like a cab-forward design and fastback tail.

To minimise its impact on the environment, Mercedes-EQ put sustainability and efficiency at the heart of the EQS. It is built in Factory 56, a zero-emissions facility located on a greenfield site.

ELECTRIC CAR, ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCE

Form meets function in the EQS, with its sweeping shape and advanced aerodynamics contributing to an extremely low drag coefficent of 0.20Cd.

Aerodynamicists worked closely with the EQS’ designers, meticulously crafting one of the most aerodynamic shapes to hit the road.

The ultra-low wind resistance measurement of 0.20Cd benefits driving range – the EQS covers up to 762km on a single charge, according to WLTP testing procedures. The smooth shape also means wind noise is practically absent within the EQS.

Its high-performance sibling, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ makes electric propulsion even more exhilarating with twin motors that unleash up to 761hp, offering a 0-100kmh time of 3.8 seconds.

With its AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive system, it continuously distributes the drive between the front and rear axles, maximising traction at all times.

In redefining the luxury car, the EQS from Mercedes-EQ is rewriting the rules for others to follow.

The first models available in Singapore are the EQS 450+ and the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+.

The EQS 450+ combines efficiency with performance. Its single rear motor produces 333hp and delivers instantaneous throttle response.

Both EQS variants use air suspension that instantly adjusts to make comfort as readily available as surefootedness, while the EQS 53 4MATIC+ features suspension components specially developed by Mercedes-AMG to deliver the most dynamic handling.

While the EQS is a large car, rear-wheel steering helps enhance its handling. Up to 9 degrees of rear-wheel steering makes for a turning circle of just 11.5m, meaning the EQS turns as nimbly as a smaller car.

WELLNESS WITHIN

The 141cm-wide MBUX Hyperscreen is a highlight of the EQS' interior, presenting key information in a clear, accessible manner.

Its smooth, easy driving manners make life behind the wheel a joy, but a key highlight in the interior is the MBUX Hyperscreen, a 141cm-wide display that will change the way you view in-car entertainment.

Front passengers have their own 12.3-inch OLED display, while the stunning graphics of the MBUX Hyperscreen have a “zero layer” menu system that ensures the user does not have to scroll through submenus or enter voice commands to find key functions.

The most important applications, such as navigation or telephone, are always offered situationally and contextually on the top level in the field of vision. More than 20 other functions are automatically displayed via AI technology that determines if they are relevant.

The air-conditioning system in the EQS features an integrated HEPA filter that removes 99.9 per cent of particulate matter from the air. It works alongside an activated charcoal filter that absorbs foul odours as well as hazardous gases like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.

The cabin is a masterpiece of luxury and design, with fine materials, solid build quality and exquisite lighting all coming together to create an unforgettable motoring experience.

Equally impressive is what lies underneath it all – a 400-volt battery with 107.8kWh of capacity. As the power source of the Mercedes-EQ flagship, the battery is designed for longevity, and is intelligent: Updates for the battery management system can be delivered wirelessly. An ECO Charging function reduces the battery load during charging, slowing down the natural ageing process of the battery, which has a warranty of 10 years or up to 250,000km.

All of the above means Mercedes-Benz has left no stone unturned in its quest to put the best luxury vehicle on the road today. “The EQS offers insight into the potential and future of the luxury electric vehicle category, redefining automotive luxury and sets a new benchmark in sustainable mobility,” said Mr Claudius Steinhoff, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Singapore.
