French hospitality group Accor announced on Tuesday (Jun 25) that a second Raffles hotel will open in Singapore in 2022. The Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore will be located on a site adjacent to the existing Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa. Both hotels are managed by Accor.

Set in over 100,000 sqm of lush landscaping, the Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore will be a villa-only resort, with 61 villas in all. Villas will range in size from 260 sqm for one-bedroom villas to 450 sqm for four-bedroom villas. Each villa will come with its own private pool and terrace.

Guests can also look forward to the signature Raffles butler service, as well as facilities such as a bar, restaurants, a fitness centre, a Raffles Spa, a celebrations room and two meeting rooms. Room rates are expected to be slightly higher than that of the original Raffles Hotel, said a spokesperson. (Rates range from S$875 to S$2,500).

“The Raffles brand is the highest expression of luxurious hospitality in Singapore and we are excited to offer well-travelled connoisseurs a second option to indulge in the famously discreet and attentive Raffles service that has provided an oasis for travellers since 1887," said Michael Issenberg, Chairman & CEO Accor Asia Pacific.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of recent openings such as Raffles Maldives Meradhoo in the Maldives and Raffles Shenzhen in China. Also in the pipeline are Raffles Udaipur and Raffles Jaipur in India; Raffles Bali in Indonesia; as well as Raffles London in the UK and Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences in the US.

Royal Group, which owns Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa and SO Sofitel Singapore in the CBD, will build the new Raffles  Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore.

“The original Raffles Hotel was conceived as a beachfront property, but as Singapore has grown up around the property it is now located in the thriving centre of the city. Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore will return the brand to the beach and create a modern resort experience that captures the balance of tradition and modernity in a serene and idyllic setting,"  said Peter Wilding, Managing Director of Royal Group.

Toronto/New York-based studio Yabu Pushelberg has been commissioned to design the resort’s architecture, landscaping, lighting and interiors.

“As Singapore evolved to become a global hub for business and innovation, the Raffles on Beach Road has become an icon and a necessary stop for Singaporeans and visitors,” said the design firm's co-founder Glenn Pushelberg. “Now, as Raffles embarks on a second property in its native city, the brand returns to where it all began – we’re taking Raffles back to the beach.”
