Vintage arcade machines and bowling lanes in a club: AVENUE opens its doors

Vintage arcade machines and bowling lanes in a club: AVENUE opens its doors

When MARQUEE opened its doors in Marina Bay Sands a few weeks ago, it gave partygoers licence to become kids again, what with its ferris wheel and LED-lit tunnel slides – the latter didn’t stop even those in heels from shimmying down to the dance floor.

Expect more nostalgia (and grown-up fun) when sister venue AVENUE opens tomorrow (May 23). While it bills itself as a bespoke lounge – and its decor piles on the swank – the addition of vintage arcade games like pinball and skee ball machines, a pool table, and a mini bowling alley help keep pretentiousness at bay.

Located within the same complex as MARQUEE, the 372 sqm space is decked out to resemble a New York penthouse apartment, with wood panelled walls, textured granite tabletops, plush custom banquettes and glowing glass pendants. Makes sense: The AVENUE brand has roots in the Big Apple, having first set up shop there in 2013. It established a second outpost in Los Angeles in 2017. Singapore is its first venture outside the States.

The lounge is divided into distinct zones – a private section with two mini bowling lanes; a main lounge area with plush chairs and low tables; a gaming room with a pool table and vintage arcade games; and a gold room with its own personal bar. A visit is akin to wandering around the home of an eccentric New York billionaire.

Drinks-wise, you’re looking at a menu of reinvented classics as well as signature cocktails. Just Another Sling, for example, is a take on the Singapore Sling, with the addition of gula melaka. For gin lovers, there are concoctions like Sunny Island and G.L.T. Fans of whisky-based creations can sample the Smokescreen, CC Old Fashioned or Dancing in the Dark, while tequila and mezcal buffs can order the Jump on the Cadillac or Rosita Stone.

AVENUE Singapore is located at Marina Bay Sands, 2 Bayfront Avenue, Basement 3, Singapore 018972, and is accessible via its Level 1 entrance on the exterior of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
