The Ambani wedding: A look at Radhika Merchant’s stunning bridal looks
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant tied the knot on Jul 12, with the bride wearing several beautiful outfits for the extravagant affair.
It was dubbed the wedding of the year. Anant Ambani, son of India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, finally tied the knot to longtime girlfriend Radhika Merchant after months of celebrations.
Merchant, daughter of pharma tycoons Viren and Shaila Merchant, wore several stunning outfits that fused elegance with tradition.
Merchant kicked off the festivities with a pastel-hued, chandelier-inspired lehenga by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for the sangeet ceremony, a traditional pre-wedding ceremony that involves festive dances and celebratory songs. The lehenga was hand-embroidered with Swarovski crystals, paired with an off-shoulder crystal blouse.
The after-party of the sangeet night saw Merchant donning a glitzy chainmail saree by Manish Malhotra.
For the haldi ceremony, a pre-wedding ritual before the main wedding which involves rubbing turmeric mixed with oil and water to the body, Merchant wore a yellow lehenga by Anamika Khanna. It comprised a sleeveless bouse, diaphanous skirt and a phool dupatta made of fresh flowers. According to Vogue India, the dupatta was made out of more than 90 marigold flowers.
When it came to D-day, Merchant officially tied the knot to Anant Ambani in a beautiful couture bridal ensemble also by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The ensemble is the designer's intricate interpretation of "panetar", the Gujarati tradition of brides wearing red and white.
For the vidai ceremony, a farewell ceremony for the bride as she officially leaves her family home, Merchant wore an exquisite Manish Malhotra couture ensemble.
And for her first evening as Mrs Radhika Ambani, the bride wore a hand-painted lehenga brought to life by Indian artist and sculptor Jayasri Burman, in collaboration with Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The garment featured meaningful imagery that celebrated the bridge and groom’s union. The human figures represented the happy couple, radiating “a celestial aura that honours the divinity in their humanity”, wrote Rhea Kapoor, along with fauna symbolising the groom’s love for animals.
Finally, for the reception, the new Mrs Ambani glittered in a gold outfit consisting of a metallic gold corset blouse from Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda Sardegna 2024 collection, paired with a satin gold skirt adorned with intricate work and a dupatta by Anamika Khanna.
