Oscars 2021: As the red carpet returned, so did the bling. Who stole the show?
Zendaya made a statement with more than US$6 million (S$7.9 million) worth of Bvlgari diamonds, while Andra Day stepped out in more than US$2 million worth of Tiffany jewels.
This year’s Oscars returned to its usual glitz and glam as the red carpet was rolled out for the first time since the pandemic. As restrictions are still in place, Hollywood’s hottest stars however walked a socially distanced red carpet that was shorter than usual, with a smaller group of photographers present.
Still, the celebrities relished the chance to dress up again, taking to the runway with sparkling gowns, statement suits, and of course, dazzling jewels. Here are the best jewellery looks we spotted on the red carpet.
Trust Zendaya to make a statement at every red carpet she attends. The Euphoria and Malcolm & Marie actress stunned in a bright yellow custom Valentino cutout dress.
She amped up the look with over 183 carats of yellow diamond Bvlgari jewels, worth more than US$6 million.
Best Actress nominee Vanessa Kirby hit the red carpet in a soft pink Gucci gown. Making a case for less is more, she wore a simple diamond necklace from Cartier.
Minari star Youn Yuh-jung made history as the first South Korean actor to win an Academy Award, claiming the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
She arrived at the red carpet in a Marmar Halim gown, paired with jewellery by Chopard.
Not to be outdone on the red carpet, Andra Day, nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, dazzled in a gold custom Vera Wang gown along with more than US$2 million of Tiffany & Co jewellery, including a pair of earrings featuring two square emerald-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamonds totalling over 12 carats.
Best Supporting Actress nominee Amanda Seyfried turned heads in a plunging red Armani tulle ball gown. She had her hair tied up in a low bun, showing off a pair of double-halo drop yellow diamond earrings from Forevermark.
Daniel Kaluuya took home the award for Best Supporting Actor, dressed in a double-breasted Bottega Veneta suit. He added some sparkle to his look with a Cartier diamond necklace, watch and pinky ring.
A strong contender for best dressed at the 2021 Oscars, Angela Bassett made a dramatic entrance in a crimson, puff-sleeved Alberta Ferretti gown with jewels from Chopard.
