Chanel’s Couture O’clock capsule watch collection draws inspiration from the maison's dressmaking workshop

The house of Chanel is known for its incredible savour-faire in the realm of fashion and haute couture. It’s only fitting then that the maison’s new novelties draw inspiration from Coco Chanel’s dressmaking workshop and the tools used by her seamstresses, such as thimbles, scissors and pins.

The capsule collection, titled Couture O’Clock, was revealed at this year’s Watches & Wonders 2024. Here are some highlights.

J12 COUTURE WORKSHOP AUTOMATON CALIBRE 6 WATCH

Watchmaking is serious business, which is why this piece makes it on our list of favourites. This J12 watch features a figurine of Coco Chanel, her scissors and her couture dummy, animated against a precious backdrop. Set with diamonds, the watch is equipped with the Calibre 6, a new movement designed and assembled by the Chanel Manufacture in Switzerland, that brings Mademoiselle’s silhouette to life at the touch of a button.

BOY.FRIEND COUTURE WATCH

Fans of Chanel’s iconic tweed jackets will adore the Boy.Friend Couture Watch. The watch is set with eight diamonds that represent the jacket’s buttons and is accentuated with a silver braid reminiscent of the pattern for the tweed jacket. The bezel is embellished with an 18K gold chain, like the chain sewn into the hem of the jackets made in Chanel’s ateliers.

BUST LONG NECKLACE COUTURE

A jewellery piece that tells time, the Bust Long Necklace Couture features a couture dummy set with over 1,000 brilliant-cut diamonds, strung on an 18k yellow gold chain. A black lacquer dial is concealed in the waist of the dummy.

MUSICAL CLOCK COUTURE WORKSHOP

The Musical Clock Couture Workshop is all at once a musical box, clock and automaton. Inspired by Coco Chanel’s rue Cambon atelier and apartment, this quirky piece of art orchestrates a choreography of couture busts to the rhythms of My Woman by Al Bowlly, a tune that  Mademoiselle liked to hum.

Within the glass dome is a chandelier featuring diamond droplets and five busts, each decorated with one 18k yellow gold brooch set with six brilliant-cut diamonds. The time is displayed on the measuring tape.

PREMIERE CHARMS COUTURE WATCH

The iconic Premiere watch gets a new look with charms, featuring a spool of thread, a thimble, a bust, a figurine of Coco Chanel and more. The charms are attached to a woven leather bracelet that echoes the chain of the classic Chanel bag.
