The age-old claim that diamonds are a girl’s best friend is evolving as more and more men embrace wearing jewellery. And they’re certainly rocking it too. On the flip side, women are increasingly adopting traditionally masculine styles, such as signet rings and chunky chains.

In the past, you’d be hard-pressed to find unisex jewellery that isn’t plain or boring. But recent trends in the industry indicate a shift towards androgynous or gender-neutral collections, resulting in an array of creative and exciting offerings.

Even historical icons, once exclusively associated with and marketed to women, are now being progressively embraced by men.

From enduring classics to contemporary releases, here are 10 jewellery collections that are perfect as matching Valentine’s Day gifts, or for adorning your shared jewellery box.

BOUCHERON QUATRE

Boucheron’s Quatre first made its debut in 2004 as a collection of rings and has since become a contemporary icon of the house. The rings feature a bold combination of colours and materials, assembled by combining four emblematic motifs of the maison – the Clou de Paris, Grosgrain, Ligne Diamants and Double Godron.

The collection has since expanded to feature bracelets, necklaces, hoop earrings, ear cuffs and more. Unforgettably graphic, each piece makes a statement when worn.

CARTIER LOVE

Cartier’s Love bracelet is an icon of jewellery design, and a symbol of enduring love between two people. Many refer to the bracelet as a precious handcuff, requiring the assistance of another to secure the screws. In fact, popular lore has it that when it was first released in 1969, Cartier gave pairs of the bracelet to some of the most famous couples of the 20th century, such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson.

The latest iteration of the Love bracelet comes in the form of a brushed finish, creating a modern matte effect. Available in yellow and white gold, it also features polished screws for a subtle contrast.

CHANEL COCO CRUSH

The distinct design of Chanel’s Coco Crush collection features quilted patterns inspired by the fashion’s house iconic motif. Whether it’s the classic quilted ring, bracelet or necklace, each item in the Coco Crush collection is easily stackable and complements both masculine and feminine styles.

One can say that the interlocking patterns of the quilted motif symbolises the inseparable connection between two individuals. After all, there’s a love story behind Gabrielle Chanel’s fascination with tweed – it was the fabric that her lover, the Duke of Westminster, wore for activities such as fishing and hunting, and Chanel was fond of borrowing pieces from his wardrobe for their adventures together.

CHAUMET BEE MY LOVE

Ever since its inception, Chaumet has always billed itself as a “naturalist” jeweller, with nature as the source of its inspiration. The romantically named Bee My Love collection is no exception.

Inspired by the bee, the graphic lines take the shape of honeycomb, with hexagonal motifs that are timeless and elegant. Pieces in the collection are available plain or paved with diamonds – great for everyday wear or for a special occasion with that special someone.

CARRIE K CODE

Singapore jeweller Carrie K’s Code collection lets you immortalise your secret language of love on a piece of jewellery. Customise your initials in morse code, represented on bangles or rings as diamond dots and dashes. The Code Rings are a celebration of commitment, while the bangles – customisable in your preferred metal of choice – feature a seamless hinge and one-handed release catch.

HERMES CHAINE D’ANCRE

Your significant other is often referred to as your anchor in life. As its name suggests, Hermes’ Chaine d’Ancre jewellery collection borrows its inspiration from a navy vessel’s anchor chain. It was first designed by Robert Dumas and initially conceived as a bracelet. But over the years, the popularity of the motif has led to a more comprehensive jewellery collection including necklaces, earrings and rings.

Pierre Hardy, artistic director of Hermes jewellery, continues to expand the Chaine d'Ancre universe with contemporary designs. The chain is transformed into a surprising ear cuff, a chunky double tour bracelet, a multi-chain cuff and more – exuding an effortlessly cool feel.

LES GASTONS VUITTON

Les Gastons is billed as Louis Vuitton’s first fine jewellery collection for men, but women can wear the pieces too. The collection is apt for the playful and adventure seeking couple – after all, its inspired by the cheeky personality of Gaston Louis-Vuitton, grandson of the house’s founder, Louis Vuitton.

There are a total of 18 pieces in the collection, ranging from rings, pendants, necklaces, tags, gourmettes, bracelets and earrings, incorporating the house’s signature monogram and trunk motifs. The rings in particular are great for everyday wear, crafted in a new dark blue titanium created by the house.

POMELLATO TOGETHER

Pomellato’s Together is a simple yet meaningful collection for the minimalist couple. Each piece in the collection features double bands held together by a link, symbolising the power of unity and strength of togetherness.

This year, two new circular pendants featuring diamond-set gold links join the collection. One of the links can be moved along the chain, allowing the chain to slide along the space between the two rings. New single-band rings in white or rose gold – entirely set with diamonds with a contrasting plain gold link – make for a contemporary alternative to a wedding or commitment ring.

TIFFANY LOCK

Tiffany Lock, the American jeweller’s first all-inclusive jewellery line, has become the symbol of modern love. Inspired by the house’s padlock motif, it emphasises the unbreakable bonds of a partnership.

Originally presented with four bracelets that swivel open and snap into place, the collection has now expanded to include rings, earrings, pendants and more, crafted with radiant precious metals including 18k yellow, white and rose gold.

SIMONE X TOMO

Some couples get a tattoo to symbolise the strength of a bond. But you don’t have to permanently get one inked on your skin. Singapore-based jeweller Simone Ng collaborated with Japanese-American artist Tomoyuki Iwanami on a six-piece collection based on Sumi-e, the Japanese art of ink painting.

The edgy cool collection comprises rings, earrings and a bracelet, fashioned as ink splash motifs in monochromatic black and white. They’re crafted from various materials, including 18k gold, diamonds and natural black spinel.
