The Omega Seamaster turns 75 this year, and to mark the occasion, the watchmaker has revealed a celebratory release to pay tribute to one of its icons.

But first, a little background: The Seamaster collection was first launched in 1948, coinciding with Omega’s 100th anniversary. By the time the Seamaster was released, Omega had already produced watches for the pilots, navigators and soldiers of Great Britian’s Ministry of Defence to support its Air Force and Navy pilots during WW2. This gave the brand the ability to progress quickly in the fields of water resistance, anti-magnetism and robustness, creating a series of watches with the ability to take on the toughest conditions. The Seamaster was thus billed as a collection that blended battle-proven technology with an elegant exterior.

There have been numerous iterations of the Seamaster over the years and on its 75th anniversary, Omega has released 11 new watches across seven models, ranging from dressier models to more serious dive tech. Each timepiece features the unique Summer Blue gradient on the dial, used in greater or lesser degrees to reflect the water resistance of the watches. The Aqua Terra, for example, sports a light Summer Blue dial, while the Ultra Deep features the darkest shade of blue, paying homage to the mysteries of the deep sea.

The collection starts off with new Aqua Terra models featuring symmetrical cases and crowns in stainless steel. The 38mm edition – powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8800 – has sailboat indexes and a polished and brushed bracelet formed of rounded links. The 41mm edition offers wearers a choice of a matching bracelet or blue rubber strap, powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8900.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer in stainless steel is a highlight of the collection, available on a matching bracelet or blue rubber strap. The dial presents a colourful view of Earth, surrounded by a circle of silvery printed global destinations. The watch is powered by the Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8938.

The 41mm Seamaster 300 boasts a symmetrical case and crown in polished and brushes stainless steel, with matching bracelet. As its name suggests, this watch is water resistant to a depth of 300m, reflected on the dial’s Summer Blue gradient finish.

The 42mm Seamaster Diver 300M is the contemporary version of Omega’s classic dive watch. It has a Summer Blue wave-pattern ceramic dial with a gradient finish.

The Seamaster collection then gets more professional with serious dive tech. The Planet Ocean 600M boasts water resistance of up to 600m. The 39.55mm timepiece features a darker blue Summer Blue tone.

The Ploprof is tailor made for serious divers, water resistant to 1,200m. The dial of the watch is nearly black, with just a spot of light blue in the centre. It features an unusual asymmetrical case defined by its push-button bezel locking system.

Wrapping up the collection is the 45.5mm Ultra Deep, boasting an extraordinary dial that pays homage to the mysteries of the deep sea. It is water-resistant to a whopping 6,000m and features a textured pattern dial that reflects the ocean floor itself.

All the watches of the new celebratory collection feature a commemorative caseback depicting Poseidon, the Greek God of the Ocean, and a pair of seahorses.
