All about Timothee Chalamet’s custom Cartier necklace at the Dune Part Two world premiere

To complement his look on the red carpet for the world premiere of Dune Part Two in London, Timothee Chalamet wore a glittering custom Cartier necklace with over 900 coloured stones, inspired by the movie’s desert landscape.

There is no denying that Timothee Chalamet is a red-carpet star, evident from all the stylish looks the actor has been delivering in recent months. In many of his recent public appearances, Chalamet has been making a case for why a bejewelled necklace should be one’s accessory of choice.

On Feb 15, the actor stepped out on the “sand carpet” in London for the world premiere of Dune: Part Two, wearing a loose-fitting black T-shirt over textured gold pants by Haider Ackermann. The bling around his neck was a custom Cartier necklace, featuring more than 900 coloured stones.

The necklace was developed by Cartier’s jewellery ateliers, with creative input from Chalamet himself, who is a Cartier ambassador. The coloured stones evoke the emblematic sands and desert of the Dune world, as well as the blue eyes of the film’s Fremen characters. Each colour inhabits one side of the modular necklace, allowing the wearer to rotate the structure and choose which combination of stones to reveal.

The sandscape is created on one side through orange, yellow, brown and white nuances of diamond, studded with invert-set diamonds for a spiked texture, inspired by the peaked, hostile terrain seen in the Dune film.

On the other side, sapphires and spinels create the vitality and intensity of the striking blue eyes of the Fremen people. For those who have yet to see Dune Part One (what are you waiting for?), the Fremen is a group of desert dwellers, whose eyes have turned a piercing blue due to their prolonged exposure to spice, a substance that plays a key role in the film.

To bring the necklace to life, Chalamet met with Marie-Laure Cerede, Cartier’s creative director of jewellery and watchmaking, in the maison’s Parisian ateliers. He shared his inspiration, the aesthetic of the Dune film, along with archival references and exclusive film stills, Cartier said in a press release.

This is the second such creation that Cartier has realised for Chalamet. The first creation was a candy-inspired necklace worn by the actor for the premiere of Wonka, created with 946 emeralds, rubellites, pink tourmalines and blue opals.

“Cartier creations have always been my first choice for important moments and getting to collaborate on this project only reinforced that for me. I think Marie-Laure and I found a way to evoke the desert and harsh beauty of Dune in the Cartier style; a wonderful opposite to the candy-coloured enchantment of our first collaboration together,” said Chalamet.

This work of art explores the complexity of nature and vitality, transporting us to a place where contrast and extremes reign. The precious stones are in vibrant, opposing colors: glowing yellows and fiery oranges diamonds evoke a relentless desert sun, while cool blues sapphires pierce the landscape like oases, and deep blacks onyx hint at the depth of the desert’s secrets. This universe is mysterious, spontaneous – and ultimately balanced,” shared Marie-Laure Cerede.

Both the Dune and Wonka necklaces will become part of the Cartier Collection and will travel the world.

Not to be outdone, Chalamet’s fellow co-stars were also impeccably dressed. Zendaya stunned in an archival Mugler robotic bodysuit. Florence Pugh wore a hooded Valentino gown, while Austin Butler wore an oversized Gucci suit ensemble.
