Vacheron Constantin’s latest collection of watches is made just for women
Drawing inspiration from haute couture, the new Egerie series is the Swiss watchmaker's first line of ladies' timepieces in several years.
Men’s watches typically receive more attention in the horological world, but watchmakers are increasingly taking the female market seriously. Recognising that there’s a growing penchant and appreciation for timepieces among women, several brands have launched new collections dedicated to the ladies.
The latest to join the fray is Vacheron Constantin. While it may be the world's longest continually operating Swiss brand, the watchmaker has not launched an entirely new ladies’ collection in decades.
The series, aptly named Egerie or muse in French, was created by a female-led design team. Taking inspiration from haute couture, each of the five models in the collection features a one-of-a-kind centre dial, designed to resemble the pleats of a woman’s couture evening gown or dress.
The pleated pattern was created by master craftsmen at the manufacturer’s guilloche workshop, using a historical tapestry technique to create a textured effect.
Additionally, upholding an asymmetrical trend that Vacheron Constantin is known for, each model also features an off-centre subsidiary dial at 2 o'clock, topped with a moonstone cabochon or rose-cut diamond. For a feminine touch, the watch face is adorned with elegant Arabic numerals.
The Egerie treasure trove includes a self-winding model (35mm) and a moon phase model (37mm), each available in either 18K rose gold or stainless steel, along with diamond-set bezels.
Rounding up the collection is the glittering moon phase diamond-pave (37mm) model, featuring an 18K white gold case set with 292 round-cut diamonds.
Understanding that versatility is important for ladies, an interchangeable strap system allows the owner to easily change the look of the timepiece to suit different occasions, from casual events to formal galas. No tools are required – straps can be changed with just a simple clip.
The Egerie collection will be available at Vacheron Constantin boutiques from March 1, 2020.
